A simple, effective, and well made tool. April 16, 2009 JohnS (Phoenix) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I only used one other strut spring compressor, before I used the OEM model. It was a single screw, twin armed unit from a store that specializes in inexpensive Chinese import tools. This unit jammed, and would not release tension on the compressed spring after the strut unit was replaced. After several hours attempting to free the jammed tool, I got a pair of these OEM strut spring compressors. The OEM spring compressors enabled me to compress the spring further, and get the other compressor off the spring. I used the OEM spring compressors to change 4 strut units without any complications. In fact, the OEM spring compressors made the job quite easy. The OEM safety pin detent holds the safety pin in place, and you don't have to worry about the safety pin moving while you are compressing or decompressing the spring. Keep an eye on them, just for your own safety, though. This was not the case with the other tool, by the way. Those safety pins would not stay in place. I like the OEM tool's wide contact area on the spring. It seems this would decrease the tendency for the spring compressor to move or slip as the spring is compressed. These spring compressors stayed in place while I was compressing the spring, and while I released tension on the spring.I highly recommend these OEM strut spring compressors; they work great, and the manufacturing quality seems very high.

I have used spring compressors before but this one with safety pins makes whole job much more pleasurable.
This tool is a beast June 27, 2009 Evan (Johns Creek,GA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this tool for a strut replacement that I was not ready to shell out $500 in labor for. The tool performed exactly as expected. The lesson learned was to plan tool placement on the springs so that you can use a ratchet for the tightening and loosening. The wrench worked fine but at 1/2 turn at a time it took a loooong time to tighten.
Coil Spring Compressors April 20, 2009 E. Cherry (VA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Worked as advertized. Were a little difficult to get in the springs I was working on (Jeep Liberty), but I should have did more research on my part. Very well made product. They will last a lifetime.
Best and safest spring compressor ever used. November 25, 2009 JwhitINtexas (North Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For the low purchase cost of this product I had worries about how well they would be built and how they would last. When I opened the carton to examine I was surprised at how robust they were made and when we used them I had confidence in their holding/gripping ability. I felt safe in the use of them and with the other manufacuturers pair that I threw away I never really felt as safe. Do I recommend them for the home mechanic, you bet I do and I will buy another pair if and when they ever wear out.
