Product Description
StrongArm gas charged lift supports are custom engineered and manufactured beyond industry standards to provide smooth operation and durability. The hardened chromium plated steel shaft is precision ground and polished for superior corrosion resistance and leak free sealing. The self cleaning piston assembly automatically opens during each compression cycle to keep the orifice clear of fluid contaminants and provide smoother operation and reliable performance. Most units also utilize StrongArm's patented temperature compensation module valve which ensures consistent operation even in extreme weather conditions. It does so by compensating for normal gas pressure changes caused by temperature variations. The metallic upper bushing is manufactured with bearing quality precision to provide exact fit with pistion rod and promote a long operating life.

5 out of 5 stars Easy Install   August 23, 2007

Removal of old hood struts and installation of Strong Arm struts took less than five minutes with only a screw driver. Strong Arm struts were
an exact match for the originals.

5 out of 5 stars I Can't Believe How Easy These Were To Install   January 13, 2009

Do you have a sloted screw driver and a 3 foot non-metallic (read: wood) stick? Then you will have no problem installing these. Forget the sockets, wrenches, torx and inverted torx drivers the Chrysler loves to use.

Prop up the hood in the middle with the non-metallic stick (just to be sure you don't arc the battery terminals). Pop out one metal retaining ring on each end of the strut with a slotted screw driver and pull the old supports out. Take note which side the rod protrudes from the housing. The retaining rings on the new struts are already in place and don't need to be removed. Just align the hole on the strut to the peg on the hood and pop them in. Then give them a little tug to make sure they hold. You won't be disappointed with the quality either. They hold firm and operate well.

One word of warning: Make sure you keep the stick propping up the hood in place while you do the second strut. Thought the first one may seem like it is holding up the hood by itself, it doesn't take much for that hood to drop on the back of your head. Yes, I'll be feeling that one for a while.

5 out of 5 stars Too Easy !!!   March 2, 2009

A quick and painless install. 5 minutes tops for anyone who has a brain and a flathead screwdriver. Are you kidding me that most dealers will charge over $100 for two of these installed !! Another reason we are fed up with the car companies. Save your time and money. Learn to do it yourself !!

5 out of 5 stars 90 second install -- works like a charm   December 6, 2009

The other reviews aren't kidding. It takes less than two minutes to swap out your old hood supports with these--all you need is a small flat-head screwdriver. On a Grand Cherokee, just pry up the retaining clips on the old ones and then snap these new ones over the existing ball joints on the vehicle. Done and done!

5 out of 5 stars Just pop them in - Don't know why I waited   February 9, 2010

This replacement is a no-brainer. The supports went in really easily. The hardest part was figuring out how to release the latches that attaches the support to the hood and chassis. After a minute fiddling with a screwdriver I figured it out then it took only minutes to replace both supports.

You will need a stick (or another person) to hold the hood open while replacing the supports, which in my case was no problem as I had been carrying a stick around for whenever I needed to hold the hood open anyway.
